Montreal's Network of Preferential Measures for Buses

TAC Mobility Achievement Award: 2024 Finalists

Award recipient (20-minute presentation)

Société de transport de Montréal (STM), QC: Preferential Measures for Buses (Simultaneous translation available)
The STM’s network of preferential measures for buses is the world’s largest, with 333 km of reserved lanes and 713 transit priority intersections. It is planned and designed to boost ridership and reduce delay – with typical travel time reductions of up to 20% and annual operating cost savings of more than $20 million. A centralized transit signal priority system operated by the STM and the Ville de Montréal is a major innovation in ITS, and enables real-time communication between buses, traffic signals, and area traffic management centres.
