City of Vaughan, ON: Transportation Youth Ambassadors Program
Vaughan wanted to engage youth on transportation issues, and local schools wanted to help students learn about different careers through real-life experience – and the result was Vaughan’s Transportation Youth Ambassadors Program. Its “by youth for youth” activities include peer-to-peer engagement (e.g. focus groups, educational tools, surveys) and peer-to-peer outreach (e.g. active school travel content, outreach at City events, games). The program has helped staff understand youth’s transportation priorities, built young adults’ interest in transportation careers, and boosted young adult voices in local decisions.
